Celebrating the Life of Raghav

Life Story

Raghav Desai was born in Los Angeles, California, and raised in Glendale, where he attended R.D. White Elementary School, Wilson Middle School, and Glendale High School. During his high school years, he was a homecoming prince, played baseball, and was first-chair saxophonist in the jazz band. Even at a young age, Raghav distinguished himself through his extraordinary intelligence, quick wit, boundless curiosity, and passion for music.

His educational journey took him to the University of Oregon and later to UCLA, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Anthropology. At UCLA, he was deeply involved in the Campus Events Commission and studied abroad at King’s College London.

Following college, Raghav pursued his passion for music, beginning his career with an internship at CAA, followed by a position at Live Nation. He eventually became the full-time Talent Buyer at Lodge Room in Highland Park, where his remarkable talent, creativity, and dedication left a lasting legacy in the Los Angeles music community. A mentor in the music industry described Raghav as “operating for a time at a genius level,” expressing awe at what he could accomplish, understand, and contextualize at such a young age.

Later, guided by a desire to pursue a new calling, Raghav earned his master’s degree in teaching from Pepperdine University. He completed his student teaching in social studies in the Glendale Unified and El Monte Union High School districts and most recently taught at several schools within Los Angeles Unified.

Raghav was fiercely intelligent, endlessly funny, deeply compassionate, and unapologetically himself. A proud progressive and independent thinker, he stood firmly by his principles, never compromising his integrity or his values. His authenticity was infectious, and his ability to challenge, inspire, and connect with others made him unforgettable.

Above all, Raghav loved deeply. He cherished his friendships, his colleagues, and his family, including his parents, Harsha and Mahesh; his older brother, Rohan; his sister-in-law, Sahar; and his beloved niece, Rumi, with whom he had recently begun a beautiful bond.

Raghav lived with conviction, curiosity, humor, and heart. His was a truly singular spirit, and the world is a better place because he was in it.

Understanding the Antyeshti Sanskar

The Hindu Ceremony of Last Rites

In the Hindu tradition, Antyeshti Sanskar is the final sacred rite performed to honor a person at the end of their earthly life. Rooted in ancient Vedic teachings, the ceremony reflects the belief that while the physical body is temporary, the soul (Atman) is eternal and continues its spiritual journey beyond death.

The ceremony consists of sacred prayers, Vedic mantras, and symbolic offerings, including flowers, grains, water, and other traditional elements. These rituals express love, gratitude, reverence, and prayers for the departed soul’s peaceful onward journey.

The ceremony also serves as a reminder of life’s impermanence, encouraging those gathered to reflect upon the values, relationships, and contributions that give our lives meaning.

Following the prayers and personal remembrances, Raghav’s physical body will be cremated in accordance with Hindu tradition, symbolizing the final farewell to his earthly form.

Guests of all faiths and backgrounds are welcome to observe the ceremony in quiet reflection. Your presence is itself an expression of love and respect for Raghav and his family.
